Phil actually has a slightly better speed on the first version of the course but he deserved a PB today ;) These PBs are all for the current course – with the finish 100m earlier than the original.

Race Report

Stu Gee returned after a bit of a break and celebrated his 100th ATTA ride. There are a few hills in that tally – just over half of his total have been 'Hillies'. He looked fresh so, hopefully …another hundred or so?

The cloud from yesterday hung around for a while this morning; it was even a little cool before the start. A few riders had a bit of trouble with a large dog out on Bailup Road ('rabid' was the description) but it sounds like the dog got tired of harassing bike riders and found something better to do – that's not a bad thing. Paul Prottey, who we predicted would be first man home, had given himself a bit more of a challenge after the first half of his ride, turned off Toodyay Rd early and converted his ride to a 'super-hilly' with an extra kilometer added for good measure; he did cross the finish line, not the first to do so, and from the wrong direction. SO he has to be content with just a 1st-leg time (20km).

Anyway Matt Burton obviously had no trouble backing up from his impressive Iron-man performance down in Busselton last weekend and led the podium charge (all with PBs) with Matt Connan, who was first man home, just off the pace there. However, Steff VanA bounced back from what she reckoned to be very disappointing performance in Tuesday's Early-bird to lead the women's cohort today with a PB – and not a bad one at that. Mitchell Spencer led the PBs list with a huge 23min but he was one of the bunch of last year's riders who detoured towards Wundowie before completing the designated course. Thankfully, we didn't see that replicated this time.

David Equid who, as usual, had been reponsible for all the traffic management negotiations for this event, set up the course (with the assistance of our BWTM for today, Greg Swensen), except for the turn onto, and the Toodyay Rd section that were the responsibility of our professional traffic managers. Iain MacLennan was our marshal on the entrance to Bailup Rd; Heather and Nicholas Connan set up the timing loop at the end of Bailup Rd,, Heather remained with it while Nicholas went down the road to direct riders into the Lilydale Rd home stretch. Megan Stalker looked after the desk, Lorraine and Ben, the start. Ali Ramm was in the mix too when she wasn't out on the road. riding a PB herself. Well done, all!
