Race Report

Summer start times resumed—but will this event be ATTA's somewhat discordant swan-song?

The webscorer results feed is active and they're underway. It's about 13° and pretty calm at CLRC according to BOM, no rain expected but it's fairly humid: 85% is the report.
The first rider through (Lap 1) is Neil McDougall. on his Hand-cycle: 9:27; then Ella Friend on her second visit to CLRC: 9:06. Campbell McDowell, doing 2 laps for a change, in preparation for the Junior Nats, has 7:18. Newbie Tommaso Puccini has a very creditable 6:57 on the board and another newbie, Lucas Parkinson is said to be on his way.
They've been going for 30 minutes now, Campbell has finished: 14:38—that is easily a PB for the two laps; Young Adam Byrne has also completed his two: 21:14.
Richard Woods has just passed the finish for the third time and displaced Tommaso Puccini from the #1 slot; Ella Friend is the best placed woman at this stage (with a good PB), several others look like they are non-starters; the last rider, David Equid, should be on the start line.
Lee Bolden now has the fastest lap time and is on his last. Sadly, it seems about a quarter of the start list will be 'DNS'. No, apologies, there are only 20% DNS—scratchings and 'no shows'.

The final four are on their last lap, Lee Bolden remains the fastest overall with Richard Woods and Tommaso Puccini slotted in at respectable distances behind; Michelle McLintock has displaced young Ella Friend as the fastest woman (of only four female starters?) and David Equid will be the final rider to complete the four laps and wrap it all up. The final results are through. Thanks David—exactly one handful of PBs, I calculate (5).

What more can be said? After nearly 36 years, beginning at a time when it was said that Australians were not interested in TTs, have the wheels turned so that myth has regained credibility? The memory of the founding of ATTA, my own 424 rides and many more than a thousand events listed on this site will last a little time yet, I hope—but …
The past couple of years have not been easy ones.

PS: There was a nice, tight tussle for Standard Time honours today—do a sort on the table (Std Place) above: Richard Woods just takes Steve Knight by a fraction (0.1) of a second! with a bunch of 40-49ers filling places after them.
