This was previously the 80km OPEN championship – for many years.

When Kieran Birch came through the finish for the first time, he had taken 20sec from his minute-man, Steve Oates who was the first to head out for the second lap. Stu Murray was the first of the one-lappers to complete (just over 55min)
Sean Ralph looks keen to do some damage to his road-bike course record, taking over #1 spot overall with about half the riders through for the first time.

It's about 21° at Ellenbrook at the moment and the predicted easterly is blowing BOM says – but also reported that it was calm at the start!

Matt Burton has taken minutes out of Jarred Anderson, the 2023 80km champion; Matt has the record for the '160' on this course. Rachael Smyth is leading the women, a bit over two minutes ahead of Kirsty Turner, then Steff.
There's only one 40km rider still out there it seems and Lyndon Greeshaw has taken top spot, ahead of Sophia Sammons who finished well ahead of Melinda Evans for the women with a new women's 40km course record. Stu Murray ended a couple of min adrift of Lyndon, having been already edged out of top spot by Sophia.
There is one 40km rider not finished and still three 80km riders unaccounted for on the first lap; DNS perhaps?

Steve Oates is across the line and looks like he has kept the deficit to Kieran at 20 sec. Matt was the last man out, so we wouldn't expect him for another fifteen or so minutes if he maintains his lap 1 speed. In the meantime Matt Dames and Kevin White have taken third and fourth places in the rankings, both starting somewhat ahead of Rachael Smyth, but it's Sean Ralph who has jumped to the top, stripping three minutes from his course record (road-bikes)! Paul Mackay is back—he started ten minutes ahead of Matt but was four mins slower on Lap1; Jarred has just finished: 1:47, and Rachael, meanwhile has also completed, well under the existing record, with a PB of ten minutes! Matt is home, taking top spot almost two minutes clear of Jarred; but outside Jon Sammut's record.
Rachael remains the fastest girl today with a new course record, Kirsty having now finished with Steff taking second spot.

Apparently Jarred's start time has had a correction and he has now jumped to top spot with a course record! That is an amazing speed for the distance: 48.7km/h and a negative split for the laps. It's been a good (or bad—shattering?) morning for the course records.

It seems there is one DNF and we await, hopefully, for the Muchea turn times.
