Large Turnout for Round 2 of TT Series
Numbers were up for Round 2 of the Marg Stoffers Midweek TT in Busselton this week with over 30 riders.
There was opportunity to recruit a few more with a number of Ironman Triathletes doing recon rides just down the road, but without Suzanne, Jo and Tammy were kept busy enough as it was.
Conditions were overcast and cool with a moderate South-westerly blowing but despite the wind there were plenty of impressive rides and a number of good personal bests.
Steve Camarri is recruiting group 4 riders to team up with him and had Walter and Carol May join him on this occasion. These three had a good ride putting in a decent time of 30:59 for the 17km course.
Lowen Ferry stepped up for the first time to the longer distances and will benefit from the extra distance, posting 30 minutes in his first outing with no doubt a bit left in the tank to improve from there.
Good to have Lyndon Miles and Dave Fergusson back out on their bikes recording 29:37 and 28:28 respectively. Claes was also thereabouts with a 29:26.
Great to see Paul Cogan′s return to fitness and motivation this year and he is starting to gain confidence pushing himself and was just over the 30 minute mark.
Vern Merchant needs some lessons from Iain Ferry in pacing himself and recording personal bests and is keen to wipe the record books and start again so he doesn′t have to try so hard to record a new best time!! The Master of the PBs, Iain once again took time off his previous best in recording 25:51.
There were some impressive times amongst the 225 junior boys with Mian Grimbeek gaining a minute on the legendary time triallist, Denny Teede. Denny wasn′t going to let the kid have it all his way however and didn′t let him get away, racing him right to the line.
225′s Alistair Patterson also recorded an impressive personal best and not to be outdone by the young guns, Tony Doherty senior put in an excellent riding keeping Tony Doherty junior honest on his road bike.
Busselton′s Lee Scurlock was resplendent in his Australian kit and recorded a new best time as did Phil Magee who had a bit of a lonely ride at the back of the field after being last to register.
Connor Lambert once again recorded the fastest time and took a second off Bryce′s course record set earlier this year. Bryce was not quite in this form as yet, but still recorded an impressive 23:40.
In the shorter event it was great to see young Mark Schaap having a ride and recording a respectable 25:08. Isabella and Josh both scored personal bests with Andrew Lanigan scoring the job of guardian rider for Josh this week.
Not surprisingly Courtland Wood took a big chunk off his PB again in recording a great time of 18:18. Pressure will be on for Courtland to continue this great improvement.
Many thanks to Robbie Commons for setting out the signs and organising the drinks tonight and to Tammy for starting and timekeeping. Our next event is in 2 weeks time back at Dardanup again.
