Today we had a flag-fluttering Easterly instead of the calm humidity at EB1 - Matt was intent on showing that it made little difference and that PBs were still possible; so another course record! Of course Luke already knew that as he was on his way to a PB and Junior record before Matt started. Mickey Anderson had Jessica's record in sight but missed out by a handful of seconds; a PB nevertheless. It was getting a little congested around the start/ finish area today and also, it seems around the roundabout where some riders were warming-up with little apparent consideration for riders already racing or other road users. Please be aware of other road users, use the old course for warm-ups and keep in mind that thoughtless behaviour that causes Park authorities to review our permission to use the Park my well result in a premature end to the series. It took a little while for the sun to rise above the tree-tops and begin to warm the Pines this morning. Lorraine was particularly grateful for the loan of a jacket when her fine motor control was obviously being compromised. I don't know who the thoughtful person was but big thanks to him - it would soon be unmitigated chaos if L wasn't capable of managing the Start-list shuffle with her usual skill. Of course it would be pretty nice too if the 'shuffle' wasn't needed to fill in gaps left by the unexplained non-attendance of about 15% of the field like today. Equally large servings of thanks were again due to our helper-crew: Cam Muir, Jeff Kealley, Phil Deisel, Mark Burke and Harry Perry wearing the vests; Nicky, MrP, BobbyB, Lorraine and Susie; then there was Nat Roberts who flawlessly called numbers and made the job of recording times so much less stressful. …back at the Pines for another episode next week eh? |
