Matt's bike makes a different sound from other bikes…
Someone suggested it had something to do with sound barriers. Most riders have a characteristic riding style but with Matt you don't get much of a chance to see him; you have to rely on sound. Whatever, the 12secs removed from his record ride of last week probably reflected the relative lack of an Easterly breeze this time; scarcely enough to move the flag today. So there was a good crop of PBs and happy faces among the rest of the field too.
What better way for Mark LeFlohic and Julian Bisset to begin their birthday celebrations? Happy Birthday, Mark; Julian! Commiserations to Julian though - that extra year put a bit of a dent into his Standard time.

Lorraine was kept warm today by the frenetic reallocation of start times: a dozen or so pre-registered riders had sent their apologies for not being able to make the start line, a further 20 or so simply didn't turn up. It's amazing we don't lose any names in the reshuffle; but Lorraine is pretty efficient. Bobby B is there to lend a hand. It's also pretty impressive seeing NickyA cope not only with 30sec start intervals but also having occasionally to slot in various late starters without disruption. Susie got her usual pre-race preparation of course-signing, marshal assignment plus a few minutes on the rollers; Mark Burke called numbers today while Genevieve helped disentangle the occasional bunch sprint past the finish line. Out there on the course was our team of marshals: Cam Berg, Jeff Kealley, Phil Deisel, Ian Klasens and Harry Perry. Great job, all of you and special thanks to those who stick around to assist with the usual business of packing stuff away again so we can dash off to post the results on the website before they have a chance to cool down.
