Once again for those folk who thought it better to stay indoors today than risk a wetting: nearly half the field recorded PBs! There are various hypotheses about relative speeds on courses that have had recent rain (eg: lower atmospheric pressure; lessened rolling resistance; increased oxygen levels!). Some of the notions are unsustainable but it's pretty compelling to believe that there is an effect. Anyway the rain held off for the duration of the event; a bit of drizzle before the start, some more after most riders had left the park; the greatest problem was experienced by Lorraine trying to keep the registration sheets dry and do the massive, cascading, start-order reshuffle: over half the field ended up being swapped from their original start spots.

Again Matt continued to sprint up that finishing straight at ever-increasing speeds but this time young Luke was intent on reducing the gap between Matt's times and the rest (well second place at least!) - 40sec was removed from his previous time for another Junior record; and his Lap1 time certainly matched Matt's Lap 2 & 3 times. There is still nothing to separate the two girls MickeyA and young JessicaA: 2sec today; 1 point overall; three rides left in the series…

It was damp but it wasn't 'arctic' even though one of Santa's helpers found his way into the field today. Aviva though would have to take the prize for sartorial elegance - she may lack the brutal speed of some but there is style…
And the next ride is New Year's day…

On the marshal front it was great to see the dedication of Cam B - back there at his Forrest Drive corner after rearranging his face ten days ago at Pickering Brook; Phil Deisel observed riders' performances at his roundabout after his own great ride on Sunday; Mark Burke looked after the western end of the course. While Nicky was coping with rider shuffles and late starts Natalie was calling numbers (content to watch 'speed' today and able to feel content with her recent ironman endurance performance in Busselton); AussieBob again helped Lorraine in the registrations compound while Susie gave up her intention to ride and concentrated on her other responsibilities of signing and unsigning the course and being part of the timing team today. Thanks to you all once again.
