Having the luxury of being able to Tweet a few live comments in the first ten minutes or so at the finish evaporated with the need to concentrate on a steady stream of finishers for the next hour and a half. The road was a bit damp in places when we set up but conditions stayed fine and for a change from the usual Easterly blowing at this event, riders had the benefit of a touch of a tail wind down Mundijong Road. So we were able to list PBs for almost half the field - an odd concept for a 'pairs' event perhaps but why not - this course has always been dedicated to this particular event so we're probably justified in talking about PBs even if it's involved assisting or being helped around by another rider.

Anyway - congratulations to Chris Glasby and his pacer William Heath. It's been quite a while since we've seen a pair take out both trophies and they did it in the second fastest time seen on the course - only bettered by last year's pair of Turbo Durbo and Trent. Trent was back to have a solo attempt while Luke is supposed to be resting after his first season in the senior pro ranks. On his own Trent managed 45km/h for the second fastest time of the day. Anyway they're youngsters, not old farts and this event is really all about older youngsters. Second fastest solo rider was Pete Carlin. He's an older youngster!
We had a number of Mixed Pairs today and they were easily led home by Shannon Arnott and Paul Prottey ahead of Sue and Ray Challen.

SO, farewell to Winter (season) and we celebrated Spring with the rebirth of Standards in their more balanced, updated form. We mentioned this in the notice of the start list posting sent out earlier this week. We think they look good but will continue to monitor their effect throughout the coming season.

Our crew for the day: Caroline and Jess Equid 'manned' the desk; Dave Equid had the pleasure of trying to maintain contact with the rear wheel of Tom Bruins for almost 41mins, saw nothing else so was quite happy to tour the circuit later as we packed up and recovered a bit of missing signage. Looking after the numerous and often busy, even chaotic intersections were Simon Copp; Greg Swensen; John Andrews and Afton Galbraith; Logan Calder and Ant Robinson. Around the corner from the latter pair, assisting Lorraine at the start was Giselle Hosgood.
Cam and Lisa signed the course and we all missed Susie - but she'll be back! Thank you everyone; take a deep breath: the Summer season begins in a few weeks.
