Race Report

Maybe Lorraine is just not comfortable on this course - she spends less and less time on it. Some of us go out and savour the flavour. Despite the protests from a few that there was an unseasonal chill in the air before the start, the conditions out there today were, once more amazingly kind; even that dreaded little climb out of Woorooloo has been made much nicer since I last climbed it by virtue of a beautifully smooth 'Hotmix' surface. And like Lorraine, almost everybody who has previously ridden this course rode PBs today; the few who didn't were bloody close! Nigel and Peter Allen each took about 15mins from their previous times; Scotty beat his old course record from way back by about 20sec and was tantalising close to Nic Brown's existing record. And nobody got lost.

Helping to ensure that people didn't get lost or otherwise mislaid were: AndrewP and NaughtyNev; Peter Fallon and Brian-the-horse; I waved a red flag at anything that approached the Breeze Rd corner while Roger Hales took your numbers. Of course Stephen looked after things like the start and finish and was helped out by Ronni Barley when it was figured that Mark R's return was imminent and Lorraine got you registered and ensured there was refuelling available.

But a number of riders are again wearing numbers too high to read from the roadside - a cherry-picker, perhaps! Big thanks to our UK visitor Jim Avens: he was the only one who thought it worth-while to call his number at the Breeze Rd corner; a lad who's learnt his craft well! It was a pity to see him finish on a flat tyre though :(
