That was a huge ride by Lorraine and four years since she made the old mark in the record book. In doing so she also made a new Standards benchmark. There were a couple of other entries made in the records book too: Tyson & Leon set a new tandem 'best' and John Aldridge (15) established a Junior record for the course. Still on the 'Marks' theme, Mark Roberts continues his charge around the courses keeping a gap of nearly 2min to the next man in - Paul Barizza whose own TT campaign for this year continues very nicely, thank you! Big Gidge hill on this course can be just a tad merciless. It certainly takes its toll on average speeds for most of us; maybe more so on hotter days like this one. While some of us could only watch as our average speeds plummeted while our altitude barely crept up, Ian Klasens, in that last 5km almost wiped out the gap that Paul B had opened up to him in 39km and recorded a PB and the fastest time up the hill. Amongst other notable PBs today: Roger Hales removed a couple of minutes; Mike Buytels, a minute and Nigel a whacking 12 mins (not quite as big as last years improvement of 24min, but impressive, eh?) There was the usual contingent of those who just couldn't get enough of Toodyay Rd - this time they all seemed to prefer to ride out to the start and (mostly) fly back. Well it would have been a bit cooler doing the Ks in that order but Steve Fitzsimmons who sent you on your way from Toodyay got the Ks laid down under his own wheels in the reverse order and without complaint. As always we owe a generous helping of thanks to all our helpers: Stephen who held things together back at Gidge, assisted by Sue Munro who discovered more of the intricacies of timekeeping; Iren Soderberg recorded your passage on to that climb up Gidge; the Klasens van assisted in the ferrying of bikes to the start as did the Measey ute and Nicky's trailer (yes, she would have been much happier riding if she had been able). Brian Measey also undertook the job of sag-wagon driver and rescued the several unfortunate DNF-punctures. Thanks also to John, our bus driver from Toodyay. Finally, we said farewell today to Tony and Maggie Webb who are off to live on the other side of the country. But their involvement with this event will carry on; they will continue to provide the keepsake trophies to the winners of the previous year's event as long as we can continue to run the event in Mark's memory.
