Race Report

Peter Fallon turned up to ride in a "tam-o-shanter" and flaming red wig. But he knew what he risked and quietly deferred to our insistence on AS-rated headgear. Bruce Hunt was apparently so intimidated by recent suggestions of dire consequences if he got things wrong that he arrived without any of his rding gear and had to do a quick round trip home to recover it. But he made it back in plenty of time to ride and post the second best Standard time and just hold off Lorraine until he had finished. Anyway Lorraine was only on her third circuit and not going to let anyone take the Standard time away from her on 'her course,' so had to battle pretty hard against a rising breeze for that last trip around the course.

The nice symmetry of Tanyana's times was actually a bit unintended as she thought she was riding a 3-lapper until a quick calculation at the end of 3 suggested a world record time for the presumed distance and she figured it might be better to put down the hammer again. I guess she was missing the coach to keep things on track? This wasn't the case with Leon and Mike who knew they had to do four but weren't sure how many they had done - so flew round for number five just in case - that with TWO of them to do the counting, for crying out loud! (Lap 5 was another 12:25 in case you wanted to know fellas)!

It was great to see our old friend Urs Lichtensteiger again: out for a conditioning ride in the hills with Steve Lack. Seems that Steve has thrown down the challenge to Urs to get himself race-fit by the final EarlyBird in January. From the look of Urs it will only be a matter of race-fitness as he certainly gives the impression of plenty of general fitness.

Thanks this round to the people who made it possible: Lorraine, Stephen, Kirsten, Stuey, FreddieC and Ray's lovely daughter who he wouldn't introduce to us.
