Race Report I think it was Eddy Campbell who announced at the start that he was about to ride a PB - it was his first ride but for most who had ridden previously on this course it was a day of PBs (only 3 were slower than previous 'bests') - and, consequently there were four rides equal to or better than previous records! Yes, we were scratching to find excuses today. A whiff of an easterly perhaps; a bit warm; humid? Tough! There is always the old standby though: lack of training or even, if necessary, suitable training. Anyway everybody should have been able to go home somewhat encouraged. The big pity was that Mark Roberts punctured. Now, he's been flying recently and his Lap1 time suggests that Scotty might not have had it all his own way. Not that Scotty thought he was going to: he had suggested when about to start that we should do a 2-up but, given his pace around the course moments later I certainly wasn't up for that sort of punishment. That was a decent sized lump to carve off the old record. 'Well done' Scotty; and 'well done' Lorraine! We also welcomed a bunch of new faces today: Tom Pirie was over here, checking us out from Kiwi land (he does a bit of organising this sort of stuff over there, I believe. I hope we didn't disappoint him); Eddy Campbell; Brian Farrelly and Dale Cammack. And thanks to Stephen (Starter and timekeeper today; I'm particularly grateful as I finally got to ride this course and what better day to do it?); on the corners, yelling encouragement and keeping motorists at bay, in the order you saw them, were Roger Hales, José, Derek M and John Neville; Lorraine got you organised and sorted with numbers as usual - and bought me a pot of tea. And Harry and Mrs Perry held the fort for us at the car-park and posted results ferried up by Lorraine and PhilG. They are all very nice people :) mouse |
