Race Report

Yes there was a bit of a breeze—as the intermediate times show—but most riders enjoyed the trip back up Old Bunbury Rd and the short section of SW Highway. The first leg is a couple of km longer than the second but… And Patrick, with a few quick km under his saddle was looking to get a few more on his ride back up the freeway, heading north to home. Not unexpectedly, there were not many PBs: one. Matt Martins managed to trim a decent 4:24 from his only other ride on the course. Regardless of the breeze, Steff wasn't complaining when she finished with the best women's time and neither did Ali Ramm who'd been looking forward to her 'hour-of-power' on the flatlands. It was a somewhat disappointingly small field—possibly because we weren't offering an 80km option this time, but at least the puncture gremlins left everyone alone today; not one rider needed to be rescued.

Aunt Emily was on hand to rescue riders if necessary after he'd gone out with Stu Helm to set up the intermediate timing; Stu (the course record holder) stayed at the turn into Old Bunbury Rd to direct riders on their homeward leg as he looked on enviously with his hand in a splint protecting a broken thumb. Iain MacLennan had set up the course with the help of Lorraine MacL and David Equid; Iain then posted himself on the turn onto Forrest where we would otherwise have not had a marshal (we lost one who was unwell). The final turn onto SW Highway was manned by Ian Skidmore. At the start/ finish we had Megan Stalker to manage the desk and Lorraine to do the countdowns as she's done so often; and Adrian Berthelsen brought the Esky. Thank you all.
