Race Report

The 160km time trial is the event on the ATTA calendar that you either love, or hate, or love to hate and do it anyway! Today saw 18 riders start the "hundred miler" on a new course utilizing the NorthLink PSP between Ellenbrook and Muchea.

Michael Moohan has established the record for this new course, getting it done in under 4 hours, closely followed by Lyndon Greeshaw and Paul Prottey. Steff Van Amerongen was the first female and adds another new course record to her list of achievements. Kirsty Turner continued her good form and was the second female across the line with the local endurance legend, Sabine Bird third. Congratulations to all of our 160km riders who completed the full distance. Whilst you may have said "never again" at some stage today, we look forward to seeing you back in 2022!

The 80km event was won by Jon Sammut, Julie De Jong was the first female, and Richard Williams the first hand cyclist. Kudos to all of those riders who also went for a run afterwards … it looked a bit like a Busselton 70.3 training camp this morning!

Stu Helm made the most of the flat, straight and smooth course and was the first 40km rider home and the fastest rider today. Adelia Neethling was pretty happy with her time when she crossed the finish line as the first 40km female. Neil McDougall was the first placed hand cyclist.

The NorthLink PSP course wasn't the only first for today, it was also the first ATTA event day that Peter Meyer had off! David Equid put in a power of work handling the logistics for this new course and even had the bike path swept. He and Carolyn were there from early setting up the course, then later packing it away. Colin Rose assisted at the start before riding his 40km, lending his back wheel to a rider who had a pre-event puncture and then assisting with the pack-up. Carolyn Equid assisted Alison Ramm with both the starting and the timing (which Peter has published at home this afternoon). Iain MacLennan managed the turn point at Muchea, Steve Knight did the long stint on the registration desk and Gina provided additional support at the drinks station/ turn point. Volunteers on a 160km TT day are very much appreciated by the riders and the committee, thank you.

We've had a few new courses this year (Hennesey Road, Wooroloo, NorthLink PSP) and as always, we'd appreciate your feedback on them to assist the committee in future planning.
