It's possibly been a busy weekend on the bike for some; it's approaching the end of the Summer season for ATTA. There are a few events left but this is the final of this year's Hilly Series
It's approaching the time for the first riders to reappear and cross the finish line; the autostart says everyone has started, will Sophia be the first one home, having started at 7:34? This is her first time on the course, so there's no 'previous' for comparison. It's 1hr10 since she presumably started; Kate Bonner was a couple of minutes later. But there's no activity evident so far. Marion Mundt has the women's course record at 1:07:53 but that's passed and she's not on today's start list. Aha, some times appear: David Fargher and Simon Hansen with 1:04s and Kate Bonner with a long 1:13. Richard Williams was the first man off—early, on his hand-cycle and he has a 'previous' from 2 years ago of a long 1:46 so it's only about five minutes before we can begin to anticipate his arrival? Did the 2-UP team of the youngsters, Ava and Charlotte start? A few more have arrived—Wanda, for the first time in a while since her most recent crash—great to see her return. Ah, Charlotte Khorshid is back but where's Ava? Sophia seems to be a possible DNS. Lyndon Greeshaw sits at the head of the list, unsurprisingly; he could hold that spot throughout the morning but it's also his first attempt on this course. Ava has completed her ride four minutes shy of Charlotte.
Richard Williams is back, five minutes outside his PB. Jen Davis has slotted in just behind Kate with Beanbird a few minutes further back.
Sean Ralph has returned with another likely road-bike benchmark time to his credit. He's occupying the #2 slot at this stage. Chris Glasby is up there, probably with the best standard time.
Steff VanA has displaced Sabine from third place amongst the women but is well outside her previous times including a one-time course record established five years ago. BOM says the temperature has crept up to 19°. The last man on the start list has returned and it looks like the top order might stay unchallenged. Ten listed riders are unaccounted for but a couple could be still on their way.
There were a couple of DNFs due to mechanical problems, TroyW and Stu Murray; Jenny Sammons also had mechanical 'issues' on the ride but finished. Apparently, unlike Friday at Champion Lakes, it was not a day for PBs—only the veteran, Mick Brammer. Well done Mick!
