Race Report

It's almost the end of the extended summer season, one to go after this one… a 'select' field to ride it—but no major 'milestones' to note.

BOM tells me it's about 12° in Chidlow at the moment and there has been a bit of rain overnight but there's not much wind right now. That's not as cool as expected at least! We're waiting on the appearance of WS, hopefully riders are all signed on, being counted down and ready to fly. It's just gone 7:30, the atta.app is alive but complains something's 'wrong'. Whatever, it would be a while before there's any sign of riders coming up the hill to the finish. …another cuppa. That fixed it, stuff coming through now (not riders yet, of course). All riders have been sent on their way and David is waiting for their return—he was starter as well as setter-upper and said there is even a bit of blue sky above.

The first rider is back— #1, junior rider, Matthew Christian, his third appearance and a very creditable 53:52 and now #13, Mark Smith with a 44:15. …more times through and it looks like the conditions are not those for PBs today. Apparently, although the roads are pretty wet, it's not currently raining this morning.

David just told me that everyone is back— that's about half the anticipated field; apparently there was advice from about half the DNS riders saying they were scratching. It's still only 12.5°—time for coffee in Chidlow, I'm sure.

The damp conditions precluded any intermediate times and no, there were no PBs recorded today.

Sadly, the only record of note: this was the lowest participation for an event on any version of this course even before the numbers reduced through scratchings and no shows; there have been thirty events.
