Race Report

It looks like things are fairly calm at Ellenbrook at the moment, according to BOM; down here there are clear patches in the sky; nothing yet to be seen on Webscorer (WS); no rider 'milestones' to be noted. But it seems that WS has finally finished waiting for results from the previous event (at CLRC). Ah, it's just passed 8:00am and the results feed to WS is active. Neil McDougall has registered a time through the finish line as he passed it on his way out north to Muchea. No changes are evident on the starter list. All the pairs should be on their way and the last of the solo riders will be following

Matheos Venetis also triggered a time on his way through the finish (5sec quicker off the blocks than Neil—Matheos is currently the holder of the pairs record for the 40km distance on this course; can he improve on it? He's partnered by Jason Walsh today.

8:24am The last rider (Mark Taylor) is said to be on his way, so now we wait for the returns … BOM still says there is no wind to measure up there; no showers either since I first checked but 98% humidity; 12° currently. Steve Oates also registered a time through the finish, the humidity has dropped (to 95%!) and a gust of wind, 2km/h has been recorded. I'd expect we're going to wait for another 20-25min for any more times to be registered. It's 8:50am.

Jason Walsh and, presumably, Matheos have arrived: 57:35—not a record but a PB for Jason; well done, sir. The first solo rider, Andrew Simpson is back: 58:04 followed by Stu Murray and Chris Brennan; the mixed team (MT) pair, Julie Pham and Jon Hanson have returned; no more PBs though; yet. Lincoln Andrews and Ava Rodgers have finished but without teammates—did they start? It's starting to look like there could be a lengthy list of DNS riders.

Steve Oates is back and has corrected his lap time but the 1:27:07 that's now showing is not correct—more likely a 1:04:08 if he started in his correct time slot? It's apparently not been a day for PBs and there are only half of the listed starters that have times recorded so far; Mark Taylor, the last starter has finished but his time is about 7min outside his previous best. 9:42am: All riders should have finished by now; no, Ian Davies has gone through. It looks like it stayed dry but a southerly breeze arrived. Newbie Ryan Aitken now has a time so it seems he started late—after Mark Taylor. It's a pity that Sean Ralph & Alex Stuart seem to be a DNS pair, they could have challenged Matheos and Jason for the fastest time. Matheos still doesn't have a finish time (did he finish?) although Neil does now: 2:03:56 on his hand-cycle.

I'll need to wait for some validated times (including possible turn times) and confirmed DNS riders to be sent through … back later.

No, Matheos DNF (punctured) and there were a few other punctures out there. Only one team remained intact. Sean Ralph didn't have a transponder and although Alex Stuart, his partner, reached the turn, I was told that neither reached the finish line. Ryan Aitken reached the turn in good time but had a slow return. So apparently it wasn't a late start after all. Presumably there was some problem on the return leg.

A very late correction: apparently Aitken did have a partner, Tom Kelly that he'd nominated when he registered. But Tom hadn't registered. Anyway he rode and the results have been updated. A further correction seemed to involve missing and reallocated bib numbers but the times haven't changed so the bib numbers haven't been altered in the results shown on this site.
